I have been exercising regularly since just after high school (about 12 years ago). I have been on and off with it since then. Initially, I exercised to lose weight but exercise never became enjoyable to me until I stopped exercising for that reason. When I don't exercise regularly I feel tired and sluggish and the least little movement is huge. I also feel weak. Exercise makes me feel strong and confident. It also improves my body image by connecting my mind to my body. I find this especially true of yoga. I also strength train and when I feel the muscles I've made it improves my self esteem greatly. They may be covered in fat but they're there and I can feel them. But I think the biggest reason I exercise now is for stress. I live abroad and life can be stressful here. When I first moved abroad I had terrible eczema. If you're not familar with it, it's a skin condition that breaks out (at least in my case) in stressful times. It was terrible all over my feet. When I started exercising regularly, it disappeared--completely! I realized then how much stress the exercise was really relieving. That just amazed me and keeps me motivated to exercise regularly.
