I am a 2nd year public health student at Berkeley and have started to do some work on this topic. Below is an invitation to my first public appearance talking about this issue. Even if you can't make it, please send positive energy my way.
The students and professors of Leading Out Loud (MBA 291a) invite you to attend the Leading Out Loud Symposium to be held on November 17th, from 12:30 - 2:00pm in the Wells Fargo Room at the Haas School of Business.
Over the course of the semester, students of Leading Out Loud develop a message around a topic inspired by their life experience and deep interest. The three speakers for this semester's symposium, chosen by their peers as best representing the class work, are:
- Daniel Cress, MBA Candidate 2004 The Importance of Prenatal and Postpartum Care
- Jennifer Eames, MPH Candidate 2004 Media's Monolithic Portrayal of Body Image
- Jason Stein, MBA Candidate 2004 Reducing Global Wealth Disparity
Leading Out Loud (MBA 291A) is a leadership course, designed to teach a method and provide an experience of creating and communicating as an authentic leader of change. The foundation of the course is that innovation and collaboration require commitment rather than compliance; and that leadership is therefore becoming more personal and more public. Deciding to lead requires far more than merely telling people what you think or feel. It requires a level of emotional intelligence that allows a leader to reflect on his or her own behaviors, traits and skills and to deploy them in a way that inspires others to contribute from their own passion and conviction.
After the students deliver their messages, a panel of leadership communication experts will provide commentary.
